Miscellaneous Tidbits
Balto Muck!
For those of you looking to spend some quality time online
RolePlaying a character in the Balto world, fire up your
favorite MUCK client (or telnet to) Jaguar.ddns.org, port 1222.
You can now download an animation of the CF8 costume skit! Comes as an
MPG
(18Meg) file, or in
AVI
format (17Meg). Thanks to Ratman at Rat.org for the server space and work
on the AVI file!
This is a picture taken of the Jenna and Balto plushies that were
released near X-mas time 1995. They are pretty decent material
wise (and Jenna has a very cute tail!) Though they tend to look
better from a profile view rather then straight on.
For anyone interested in trying to track these plushies down, you
could try sending mail to the original manufacturer. The address is:
Equity marketing
131 South Rodeo Drive
Beverly Hills, CA 90212
And speaking of plushies, check out this incredible life-sized Steele
plushie. Thanks to Lance Ikegawa for the contribution on this one...
I want one! :)
One of the only animation collectable items released, it's a beautiful
sericel of Balto and Jenna looking into each other eyes. Your best bet
for picking one of these up is at a place called The Cartoon Company,
Phone & Fax: (816)842-3300.
A picture of the Movie Poster from Germany.
Lyrics from the closing song 'Reach for the Light'.
A picture obtained by WolfEyes, it has been pointed out that
this is most likely a picture of Togo, as can be told from the
bent-over ear... I'll have to try and dig up a couple of extra
comparison pictures.
Here are the covers from four Balto books that I found while checking out
the online bookstore Amazon.com. I will
write up some short reviews when I get the time. I'll also try to get
some better scans without the wavery pattern on them.
Balto Toys!
OK, so it's not a full line of Kenner action figures, but I did manage to
get my hands on some of the small Balto toys that were included with the
Kids Meals from Hardees in the US, as well as from Burger King in the UK.
The pictures aren't perfect by any means as I never did find a camera
with a really good zoom, but these should give you a pretty good idea as
to what they look like. You will notice that the UK versions are much
closer to the characters in shape and color. However, the US ones have
moving parts. Personally, I'd take the realism any day. If anyone is
interested in trying to get a set of these for themselves, the only thing
I can suggest is to try contacting the manufacturer at Croco Productions UK Ltd,
18/24 Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick, London W4 1QP
A crossover that I hope we'll never see... Gamera Vs. Balto!
Steve Gearly took a visit to the Balto exhibit at the Cleavland
Museum of Natural History. Here are a few of the photographs that
he took while he was there (these are pictures of the Real Life
Balto. I personally think it's kinda spooky to have Balto stuffed and
on display...)
Another bit contributed by Steve, this is a picture of the Balto standup
advertisement that he managed to get. I asked for the one from the local
movie theater, but they gave it away to someone else instead.
