Balto Costume Pictures
From Confurence 8
I finally got my film back, and scanned in all the pictures
that I had of the Confurence Costume Contest this year. Well,
actually, I've only scanned in a few of the pictures, but
I made sure to get all of the Balto ones. Since there were
so many of them, even as thumbnails they take over 60K, I decided
to break this page into two parts. The first picture link will
take you to the pictures of the skit that the costumees performed
while on stage, and the second picture link will take you to a bunch
of pictures taken after the show, when the costumes were being
shown off.
Soon after I had arrived at CF, there were a number
of rumors going around that there were Balto, Jenna and Steele
costumes around somewhere (a friend of a friend had seen them,
or someone had heard from a 'reliable source'). But no one that
I knew had seen them first hand, so I put the thought aside as
being a part of the 'rumor mill'. That thought changed abruptly
during the Costume Contest. From the vantage point where I was
seated in the audience, I could catch a glimpse
of the next act around the partition... And when I caught the sight
of a canine head with yellow eyes, I knew the rumors to be true.
The "Reach for the Light" song started playing as the announcer called
out the next act of Balto Jenna and Steele, and the audience erupted
into applause as Balto stepped out on stage. Steele snuck up on stage
soon after, and started giving Balto a hard time, harrasing him,
and chasing his tail around... However, both turned their attention
to Jenna as she made her appearence. For those who have seen the
Tidbits part of this page, you have seen
the Balto and Jenna plushies... They had managed to gather up about
a dozen of them, and Jenna was carrying them in an huge basket, obviously
representing the offspring from Balto and Jenna's love. :) Steele now
steps to the left part of the stage, away from the two love birds, as
Balto reaches down to snuggle and play with his pups.
But then the music came to a screeching halt as Balto makes a
shocking discovery! One of the puppies looks just like Steele!
Oh my! Balto lifts the pup to Jenna, who crosses her paws
over her muzzle, looking very ashamed. Steele raises his head
and starts laughing as Balto jumps over, with the Steele-pup in
paw. The skit comes to a close with Balto chasing Steele around
the stage, then down the steps as Jenna quietly exits afterwards...
As you can see from the pictures, the costumers did an incredible
job with portraying the characters. The facial features on all three
costumes were nothing short of incredible. I can barely draw
them, so I can hardly imagine trying to model them in 3d. Jenna
looked so cute. :) Balto's extra big paws, Jenna's tail, Steele's
snarl, and the implimention of the digigrade legs were all
extra bits that helped bring them to life. Finally,
the actors did a great job of portraying the character's emotions,
which is quite a feat considering they can't change their facial
expressions, and have to rely on body posture, and arm
and leg gestures...
